Phoenix Indian Medical Center Renovates Hospital

Phoenix Indian Medical Center's CEO, John Molina, announced an $8.2 million renovation to the facility Friday called "Operation Eagle Rebirth," funded by federal stimulus money. As you can imagine, the project is affecting patient and surgery related services, redirecting emergency patients to a 53-foot trailer with 14 beds, and women in labor to the county hospital on 24th street and Roosevelt.
Originally built in 1970, the center provides cradle-to-grave care for more than 100,000 members a year in more than 40 tribes across Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. For those eligible, the center offers various medical services including pediatrics, internal medicine, family practice, optometry, podiatry, family practice, surgery, radiology, dental care, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and a pharmacy.
"Operation Eagle Rebirth" will include upgrades to:
-electrical infrastructure
-air handler units
-central equipment sterilizer
-the 6,900-square-foot emergency department (by Fall)
-parking lot
According to the facilities planner, Harrison Baheshone, a facility typically undergoes renovations every 10 years. However, due to funding, the center had not been able to do this, making this project well-overdue and essential to hospital function and maintenance.
In case of disruption in the hospital's activity, the center will be on full alert, operating under a Hospital Incident Command System until the project is complete. They have a trained team available to provide directions, coordinate responses, and carry out pre-planned protocols in the case of an emergency.
The center sits on the northwestern corner of Indian School Road and 16th Street. With crews working around the clock, the project is set to be completed by May 30th.
